Taiwan Railway Timetable Adjustment on August 30, 2024

Due to the impact of Typhoon GAEMI, the K53 westbound line on the North Link Line has been interrupted at the Xiaoqingshui Creek Bridge, and repairs are expected to be completed by the end of the year. Currently, only single-track, bidirectional traffic is possible between He-ren and Chongde, a distance of 10.1 kilometers. Each train's travel time will need to increase from the original 5.5 minutes to 12.5 minutes, which also reduces the line's capacity. To maintain punctual train operations, timetable adjustments will be implemented.

Considering the travel demand in the Hualien-Taitung region and post-disaster recovery, this timetable adjustment aims to maintain the current capacity of the Eastern Main Line as much as possible despite the limited line capacity. The new timetable will be implemented starting from August 30, 2024 (Friday), after the summer holiday period.

1.The original Taroko Express trains 217 and 248, and Puyuma Express trains 221, 247, 218, and 236 operating between Shulin and Hualien will be replaced by the new EMU3000 series for the same 6 trips. This change will add 988 seats daily, enhancing capacity.

2.The number of trains will not be reduced from Monday to Thursday.

3.The original five additional trains on Friday (trains 237, 427, 436, 488, and 405) and the Friday night-Saturday train 492 (Pingtung-Taipei-Taitung) will be suspended. They will be replaced by train 152 running between Pingtung and Qidu, and train 452 running between Shulin and Taitung.

4.The original five additional trains on Saturday (trains 202, 436, 418, 405, and 427) will be suspended.

5.The original overtime trains on Sunday (trains 223, 250, 234, 233, 237, 418, 436, 443, 405, and 427) are temporarily suspended.

6.Shortened operation for local express trains:
(1)Train 4006 (Taoyuan to Hualien) will be shortened to operate only as far as Nanao.
(2)Train 4030 (Shulin to Hualien) will be shortened to operate only as far as Heping.
(3)Train 4021 (Hualien to Shulin) will start from Heping.
(4)Train 4033 (Hualien to Yilan) will start from He-ren.

7. This timetable adjustment involves changes to a total of 278 train services, with 189 services (about 21.2% of passenger trains) having changes of more than 5 minutes. For details on specific train services and schedules, please refer to the Taiwan Railway (http://www.railway.gov.tw) and station notices starting from August 13, 2024. Ticket booking for passengers will open at 12:00 AM on August 16, 2024 (Friday), and group bookings will be available starting from 9:00 AM on the same day.
