New TRA Commuter Trains EMU900 are expected to increase transport capacity

To increase passenger capacity and replace existing older model trains, TRA has ordered 52 EMU commuter trains (520 cars), with a total cost of NT$25.3 billion, from Hyundai Rotem Co. The TUV Rheinland is entrusted as the third party Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) organization to ensure the reliability, availability, maintainability and safety of EMU900 trains. The first batch will be delivered after the testing reports been reviewed and approved by the IV&V organization. It will soon follow a test run period before the trains are put into service, and it is expected to increase transport capacity and improve train service quality

Each of the new EMU900 commuter trains consists of 10 carriages will progressively replace the older models EMU700 and EMU800 which consist of 8 cars only. It is estimated that the EMU900 will increase the capacity by 40% and meet the commuting demand in suburban lines during rush hour.

In the beginning of this September, TRA conducted a trial run on the newly completed rail track to ensure the EMU900 cars can be successfully transported to Hualian Rolling Stock Branch.
